In 1900, David Nelson founded D. Nelson Storage, Express and Piano Moving. Encouraged by Zalmon Simmons, D. Nelson quickly became a premier mover and storage provider of personal furniture in the Kenosha area.
Expanding and innovating with the years, D. Nelson eventually evolved into David Nelson & Sons Moving and Storage, expanding its storage offerings and constructing Wisconsin’s first “Fire Proof” storage facility in 1925.
As clients’ needs and opportunities changed, so did the family business. In 1965 the 3rd generation of the Nelson family with partner Al Bane formed Bane-Nelson, Inc. to specialize in service industrial and commercial clients in heavy moving, rigging and construction, while David Nelson & Sons continued serving the residential market.
In the 1990’s, as self storage and rental vans became more prominent, David Nelson & Sons adjusted to focus on heavy hauling and transportation, taking the name Nelson Transfer, Inc.
Today, the next evolution of the Nelson Legacy of storage is BNI Storage, LLC. Formed by the 4th and 5th generation leadership of the Nelson family, this new entity specializes in storage and warehousing of heavy industrial equipment, while offering opportunities for smaller, versatile storage needs and commercial office and multi-use space.
As the storage industry and needs of clients continues to evolve, BNI Storage, LLC will evolve and innovate to continue to offer solutions for the Industrial and Commercial markets of Southeastern WI. Since 1900, the Nelson name has been linked to Kenosha and the storage industry, we will continue to be “Built on History, Focused on your Future”.
